Photographer's Note
Saluting at the new year 2011 from Bandiagara, Mali.
We stayed at a small village on the Bandiagara Escarpment, where is situated about 80km east-southeast of Mopti.
A Dogon hunter of the village fired a salute for us in the morning, and the next moment there were enveloped in smoke.
This photo is most suitable for the New Year in my Africa's photos, i think, so tried to bring out an acceptable picture from a poor source image, concretely brought out blue of the sky through DxO Optics Pro 6, and then using Photoshop, broadly cropped out a part of the lens flare and made the Dogon hunter stand out.
I felt DxO is a superb tool to create a three-dimensional effect and rich taste like a film or full-body wine.

Happy New Year dear Hisashi
A wonderful photo, as you say, it looks three dimensional. I like the way your subject seems to be emerging from the mist. A most interesting composition, very original and well-thought out.
I wish you and your family every happiness in 2011,

A powerful shot, haha! And a fine salute to the new year;
Technicalities are mere details, this is a shot with soul.
Lots of great elements here. My favourite detail is that radio!
Happy new year to you & your loved ones, dear Hisashi.

Hello Hisashi,
the picture seems to have been made of some post apocalyptic movie! Very good with a gun in hand and the monkey skulls set in the wall of the house. The smoke also produces a beautiful effect. Big hug.

Hello Hisashi,
A superb picture to start the new year. This is quite different from most pictures on TE. The Dogon people still seem to live rather traditional lives in spite of having been a tourist attraction for several decades already. It's also very interesting to see the original version in the workshop. I'm thinking of doing the same with some pictures I've had to work very hard with.
All the best to you during 2011.

Really the sharpness here is excellent and there is a strong three-dimensional effect. The scene is so unusual and exotic and makes an fine and interesting document of this little known country.

Bonjour Hisachi
For sure this version is better :) Anyhow, I like very much this picture showing the authentic/proud hunter with his rifle, shooting in the air ...some interesting details, like the skulls on the facade, maybe from monkeys? I also notice a big bone on the right side...
I wish you all the best for 2011 :)

Hisashi happy New Year greetings to you. This photo posting of yours is a very powerful presentation. I love his expression and his home dwelling...especially the skeletons on the wall...and what looks like a radio. I can see you had an incredible eye opening experience. It's simply like seeing life in another world. Most excellent capture indeed.

Hi!!
what an interesting tour you had!
This shot is really goo, I think you cut it properly here: the hunter is a very good subject, well framed by the roof and the gun, just in the corner of the roof
Greetings!

Hello Hisashi, Interesting image, it immediately caught my eye, this type of scene is not something we see every day. Nice capture & PP work, especially with the sky.

perhaps few details that could have been improved, but this pic is great! Knowing the place, I can tell you the way you caught this scene gives a life to the Dogon s country, I mean a real life...
