Leptis Magna's, close to Tripoli, claim to fame in the modern world is owed to the fabulous state Roman city, where much dates to the 3rd century.

The main reasons why Leptis Magna has survived so well into modern times was that it was soon covered under desert sand, only to be unearthed in the 20th century
