Photographer's Note
A closer view of the Great Pyramid of Giza, also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops and dating from 2600 BC. It was originally 146.5 metres (481 feet) but today is 138.5 metres (454.4 ft) after centuries of the limestone covering being stripped away for mosques in Cairo. It was the tallest manmade structure for 3,800 years. Ironically, it was surpassed by another Egyptian construction, the obelisk, when the Washington Monument in the USA was completed on 9 October 1888 at 555 feet tall.

Hello Chris,
We all know that this pyramid is huge, but the persons and camels nevertheless help us estimate its impressive size. It looks rougher and more damaged than I am used to seeing it. Maybe it's the light and the fine sharpness that creates that effect.
Regards,
Gert

Hello Chris, a great close up of the Great Pyramid.
It can’t have been easy stripping away the limestone covering, imagine how much more magnificent it would look if it was complete.
It is such an impressive building with or without the facing.
The people and animals are tiny standing below this fantastic construction.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Chris,
The top part of the covering of the pyramid turns out not to be taken away so easily.
I've often heard that a lot of stones were taken for construction in Cairo. But in your note I read for the first time that this happened for the construction of mosques.
Your photo shows us very well how irregular such an outer side of the pyramid is.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Chris, Magnificent view of the Pyramid in Giza. I like the composition and colours. Strange that not so many tourists there.
I have just returned from Egypt. I was on the Nile cruise in the Luxor and Aswan area and in Hurghada. It was the perfect time to visit the temples with the temperatures around 25 degrees, not so hot but in Hurghada was too cold for swimming.
Now it is safe to travel taking into account the terrorist attacks but there is COVID time and still relatively few tourists there.
Best regards MAlgo

Hello Chris,
A fantastic photo of the pyramid. The texture looks amazing in this clear sunlight and I like the people, camel en horses in the foreground, who add a great sense of scale.

Hello Chris,
Wow ... how was this built so long ago!
Your inclusion of the figures emphasises just what a colossal building this is!
There are fine details of its blocked surfaces and suggestions of its previous marble covering.
I like how you have given your photograph a very diagonal composition.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Chris,
Great closer view of the immediate surrounding of the pyramid. I remember I was not sure what to expect there before I got there. Being part of an organized tour, our time was extremely limited there so I sepnd most of it taking a photo of my wife on a camel...
I would love to return there and have more freedom like you did.
The presence of the people on horses and the carroage allow us to better imagine the scale of the structure.
Very well done,
M

Hi Chris
I so badly want to visit Egypt, as I have told you many times.
Flying my drone near this site is my plan :)
I want to get a shot of the pyramids with the city all in one, to see how close they are together. this is a great shot showing scale, the horses are so tiny here. love it. Happy New Year to you and your family!
cheers
Craig
