Photographer's Note

This Madrassa "school or convent" was founded in the 13th century by "Muhammad Ibn Qalaoun" the Sultan of Mamlouk state in Egypt. It is situated near "Khan Elkhalili" in the old city of Cairo. The building is organised around a square patio. Each side of this patio contains an "Iwan" (see the photo). This one is a great arc that covers an open space. From the four Iwan in the pation, three ones serv as a class rooms for the "Madrassa". The fourth one is used as a Prayer room. This photo was taken from the prayer room.
