Photographer's Note

During the dry season, women from Digba spend lots of time fishing in the nearby rivers. As the water level drops, fishes hide below the branches or in the muddy river bed...
While some women are plundging their hands into the mud to get the fishes out of their hiding places, some others dispose their nets closeby hoping fishing will get trapped if they escape. It happens that by removing the mud some women manage to catch fishes directly with their hands (like on this photo). What surprised me at first was that they would directly put the fish in their mouth (see also the photo in the WS) rather than keeping it in their hands. It makes sense though as teeth give them a much better "grip"... Quiet often, children will be responsible for keeping caught fishes in their bags (see bottom right). Kids will also spend time catching crabs on the muddy river banks.
