School Bus...of sorts., a photo from Brava, Sotavento

Photographer's Note

This photo was taken in Vila Nova Sintra on the island of Brava, in Cape Verde, which is an island nation off the west coast of Africa.

The island has only about 4,500 people, and Vila Nova Sintra is the largest city with roughly 2,000 people.

While I was walking down the street this dump truck drove by taking kids home from school that live in other parts of the island. I quickly grabbed my camera out of my bag and was able to take this one photo before it lumbered off around the corner.

Original photo was taken using color film, but I liked it better in black and white.

I saw this in Angola in the 90's. How people feels happy with so few!? They eat and are alive. You got a moment of honest feelings expression of a great and brave people. The B/W was a good choice.

I've just learnt from your intro that you spent half a year in Cape Verde. I think yoy should post some more pictures from there. So many people went to India or Mexico, not too many to CV. What was the purpose of such a long trip to that place?
Good that this picture is colorless - it shows the mood of this town. Just one person noticed you taking the picture and smiled. It shows that the people there must be really friendly.

I'm a little surprised by the relatively big size of the truck, as usually in Cabo Verde people are transported in smaller trucks and minibus. (I've never been to Brava).
That's a very interesting daily life photo.
