Photographer's Note

Most pictures of my series Cape Verde Fishermen have been taken in Baía das Gatas.
Today we are in the beach of another fishing village: São Pedro, in the southwest of São Vicente Island, Cape Verde.
Here you see a small trawler, not so far from the beach (see workshop #1). However, there was heavy swell (see workshop #2) and the trawler was not supposed to be hauled ashore. Therefore, I saw a very interesting way to unload the fish from the boat: young men on surfboards went to the trawler and fetched big fish ashore (tuna, I guess; see next post). In this photo, at left (astern of the boat), there is at least one surfer on his board, swimming on it toward the trawler. In the workshop #2 there is a surfer standing on the board, also astern of the boat.
