Photographer's Note

Another picture of the dry island of São Vicente. The drinking water produced from seawater in desalination plants is transported by trucks to places in the outskirts of Mindelo and to outlying villages, such as São Pedro (near the airport), in this photo. Here you see a house with two water tanks, where the people (usually women and children) go to get water. They use makeshift containers and wait patiently their turn go get the precious liquid.
In workshop you see more to the outside of the village; notice the container for garbage outside the village; despite the poverty, this is relatively clean place (at least I'd say cleaner than Praia, the nation's capital city). See also a view that includes the central square of São Pedro.
