Photographer's Note
Meet Arturo, a street shoe cleaner...and an artist - he performed an interesting dance with one of his brushes (see workshop if you like)...
It looked as if everyone there spoke English...

The portrait is really great and the light is also there,
just a bit too saturated,the face,for me.Just a bit.Looking
forward to see your 'reportage' from Cape Verde.

Fine portrait Jerzy. A warming light and rich colours. Perfectly balanced by the young man in the background, nicely blurred.
Excellent job. Roberto

Pozdrawiam. Grazyna.

Nice double post, Jerzy, intense portrait here, from very close indeed, somehow I prefer the WS, maybe because of the dynamic action, and the typical houses of the background... Regards, Daniel

Piękne dwa plany. Dla mnie pod względem treści niemal równorzędne. Kompozycja na duży plus.
Pozdrawiam świątecznie.

Hi Jerzy,
Great portrait! A man with very strong features but soft expression. Eyes clearly show cordiallity. Good light and sharpness. Excellent job!

Hi Jerzy,
Another wonderful street scene in Mindelo (including the WS).
The sharp details of Arturo's face are very well presented.
It looked as if everyone there spoke English...
Nowadays all over the world everyone try to speak at least a little bit of English. Anyway, São Vicente is perhaps the Cape-Verdean island where you find more people speaking English (and other languages as well!). Traditionally the people of Mindelo was very open to the world, owing to the great port. Also, English business was very well established in Mindelo/São Vicente when the port was an important point for steam ships supply. The English left great influence in Mindelo culture, including even the language. The people (everybody) use some English words mixed with their Creole own language, such as cul (cool), broda (brother), naice (nice), and many others.
