Lonely Boy at Porto Grande, a photo from Sao Vicente, Barlavento

Photographer's Note

Porto Grande ("Big Harbor") is the the great bay and best harbor of Cape Verde, located in Mindelo, São Vicente Island. Thus, it was the obvious choice for Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral when they had to land their seaplane on their pioneer journey — the first air crossing from Europe (Portugal) to South America (Brazil) in 1922.
The sculpture is a monument to the pioneer flight of Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral. It was made by Cutileiro, the same sculptor of the monument to the 25 April Revolution in Lisbon.
In front of the yellow and white building, the Municipal Library, at left, there is a very different monument that celebrates also this flight.
Nowadays the jet aircrafts en route to and from Brazil make also stopovers in Cape Verde, but they use the airports in Sal or Santiago islands.
A lonely boy is not usual in Cape Verde, but this one was here, maybe taking a rest on his way home. I guess he is still unaware of what the monument stands for.
To the left of the Municipal Library, there is the white-and-pink building of the Alfândega Velha (Old Customs House).

Hello Francisco. I like this one a lot. I like the light, and the forlorn pose of the boy. Perhaps you could have cropped a little of the left of the image to place him closer to the left side. Also moved your position a little to the left so his knees aren't cut off by the monument. Thanks for the interesting notes, too.

Esta está muito gira, Francisco. Bonita vista lá atrás e bom enquadramento à frente. Gosto muito do míudo que parece estar a ler uma enciclopédia. Se calhar está precisamente à procura do significado da escultura...

Esta está muito boa, com cores suaves e boa exposição.
Fico contente do que tu dizes que em Cabo Verde há poucos rapazes solitários. Infelizmente aqui por portugal vão-se vendo demasiados, com a agravante de serem filhos únicos. Eu nesse aspecto tive sorte: somos 9!

I noticed hat one because of the monument, thinking it was a much older mark than it seem to be. Never mind, it makes a nice foreground for this harbour view. Very nice mountains in th background.

Olá Francisco,
Gosto especialmente do ar tranquilo e melancólico sem ser triste. O monumento parece formar um abrigo "aberto" para o miúdo, cuja pose é curiosa, pois parece muito interessado no conteúdo da caixa. Compo muito boa, luminosidade algo estranha mas muito bonita, que talvez tenha contribuido para que as cores ficassem muito bem.
Está muito ligeiramente inclinada para a direita.

Excelente POV desta baía, nas cores suaves do Cabo Verde. Ótima impressão de profundidade.
O menino parece ter um tesouro nas suas mãos. Interessante o que disseste com relação a não ser comum encontrarmos crianças sozinhas no Cabo Verde - bom isso, sinal que cuidam bem delas.
