Photographer's Note

I created today a theme to include my series of Mindelo hawkers: Cabo Verde - Rabidante. The rabidante are the street vendors or hawkers in Cape Verde, usually women, as you see here and in the other photos of this series.
As I wrote yesterday, owing to men's emigration and other less noble reasons, usually in Cape Verde only the women take care of the children. So, when they are not in school, these girls are with and help their mother selling the produce in the street.
This women's business is somewhat specific, at least this day: mostly herbs for teas and dry fruits (tamarind and two kinds of African nuts); there is also a few potatoes, apples and two bananas.

Olá Francisco. Este é o tipo de fotos que gosto mais de ti. Esta atmosfera de rua é de facto muito mais cativante em países menos ricos. A grande attracção aqui vai para a pequena que se ri numa pose meio envergonhada de míuda. Também acho piada à cara que apanhaste lá atrás entre as duas raparigas da frente. Talvez tivesse cortado um pouco do lado direito.

Isto é o que eu chamo uma fantástica foto de reportagem!
A cena está muito bem pensada e o enquadramento perfeito.
As cores e os contrastes fazem-nos sentir o maravilhoso "cheiro" de Cabo Verde.
