Photographer's Note

Gloria's comment to my previous post ("I like these women, and their intensity!") prompted me to post already this other shot of Mindelo's rabidante (hawkers). Cape-Verdeans are strong women and, like in many countries, they work harder than men. In Cape Verde many men emigrated, and their women remained in the islands doing the combined work of men and women.
Two of the rabidante in this shot are selling fish (the right one I guess is tuna fish). The hygienic conditions are better than it may seem, as they got this fish fresh every morning and by noon they've sold all or most of it. You won't have any problem to buy and eat this fish. Anyway, you can buy also in the conventional Fish Market.
I don't like very much this framing, as you don't see the buyers, but I was more concentrated in the central sellers and their produce.

Yes it does seemo be very much a Woman's Place. I like the way you've shown them completely involved in each other. The comfort with each other is very clear.
Once again; Health, Love and Joy. I really do think that if everyone remained focused on those three things for themselves instead of trying to mind everyone elses's business, we would hve peace ads well.

Sim, é verdade que não se vê os clientes, mas eu gosto mesmo muito desta composição, Francisco. Esta esquina está espectacular, não só pelas expressões naturais de todas estas mulheraças, como pela exposição da mercadoria. Aquele balde à direita parece ter nacos de carne, mas deve ser carne de peixe, certo? Aquela t'shirt cor de laranja é o máximo!

Awesome view of an open air market. The colors and expressions are priceless. I was wondering what those big chunks were so I'm glad you said it was tuna, I was imagining much worse. You're right, fresh caught is virtually always safe and I'm sure it's fantastic.

Esta sua série sobre as vendedoras está fantástica! Esta foto delas conversando com a já nomeada "intensity" que lhes é peculiar, ficou um show. A nitidez e o colorido são notáveis!
O penteado da moça de blusa alaranjada está no auge da moda aqui no Quebec - haja "mousse", gel, fixador (não se usa mais a palavra "laquê", não?) etc etc
