Photographer's Note

This is the former Palácio do Governador (Governor's Palace), one of the most elegant and well preserved colonial buildings in Mindelo city, São Vicente Island, Cape Verde, and in the former Portuguese African colonies. After independence (1975) it became the Palácio do Povo (People's Palace). It was used as a cultural exhibitions hall and it was the house where the President of the Republic accommodated important visitors when they were in São Vicente Island. Nowadays the Palácio is housing temporary the Tribunal (court) of Mindelo, while a new Palácio da Justiça (court of justice) is being constructed (as we see in the backside of the Igreja Matriz).
This Palácio is located in the centre of Mindelo, at the upper side of Rua de Lisboa, the same street of the Mercado Municipal. In the workshop (Altered Image #1) there is a view of the Rua de Lisboa with the Palácio in the background. The street is closed that afternoon (July 4) because in the evening there was a celebration of the Independence Day (July 5) in front of the palace. In the other workshop (Altered Image #2) I post another shot of the building; I prefer the primary post, but maybe some people would prefer the WS.
Behind the Palácio you can see a bit of the little tower of the former Liceu Gil Eanes.
Location in WikiMapia: 16.8865809, -24.9867296.
