Photographer's Note

I have posted already a picture of the Mercado de Peixe entrance. Now you see the continuation of that façade, with the Torre de Belém next to the fish market and the street (Rua da Praia) towards the seaside boulevard (Avenida Marginal). I'm posting a slightly different view in workshop. I prefer the color and light of the worshop, but I prefer the mood and POV of the primary post (I chose it as main post because at TE I value the mood over technical details). The shots were taken in different days and different times (notice the shadows); the workshop was at 11:03 AM, a couple of hours after the early morning shopping rush hour; the primary post was at 04:45 PM, at late afternoon shopping rush hour. Notice the street vendors or hawkers; you'll see more, after the tower, on the next street corner at right.
The Torre de Belém is a fundamental sight of the Mindelo seaside boulevard. It is a replica (not really a perfect copy) of Lisbon's Belem Tower. Mindelo's Belem Tower was built during Portuguese rule of Cape Verde and served as the Capitania (Captaincy or Port Authority) until the 60's. For years it was not used; the modern Capitania is on the opposite side of the bay. Since a couple of years, the Torre de Belém is being restaured to house some kind of museum or culture centre.
In this picture we are looking towards the point of leo's good bye São Vicente.
See also an old painting in tiles, at workshop.
