Mindelo is the only city of São Vicente Island. It was created in the XIX century to support the activities of its excellent deep water harbour, called Porto Grande, the best in Cape Verde. The building with two yellow triangular façades (behind the palm trees) it's the Nautical Club (1875). The next to the right, the pink building, it's the Old Customs House (1860) (now the Mindelo Cultural Centre). In front of it there is the Cais Velho (or Customs Pier, or Cais Bedje), the old pier that is being renovated to accommodate a new marina.
Make no mistake: those clouds are usual but don't bring rain to this barren islands. The photo was taken at sunset.
Mindelo é a única cidade da ilha de São Vicente. Foi fundada no século XIX para aproveitamento do excelente porto de águas profundas, o Porto Grande, que é o melhor de Cabo Verde. O edifício amarelo, com duas fachadas triangulares, atrás das palmeiras, é o Clube Náutico, de 1875. O outro a seguir, cor-de-rosa, é a Alfândega Velha, de 1860, actualmente Centro Cultural do Mindelo). Em frente encontra-se o chamado Cais Velho ou Cais da Alfândega (Cais Bedje, em crioulo), que está sendo renovado para dar lugar a uma nova marina.
Estas nuvens são frequentes, mas não hajam ilusões: quase nunca trazem chuva a estas ilhas desafortunadas. A foto foi tirada ao pôr-do-sol.
