Outdoors Fish Cleaning, a photo from Sao Vicente, Barlavento

Photographer's Note

Near the Fish Market in the city of Mindelo, São Vicente Island, Cape Verde, there is a pier, where some fishermen unload their catch. Near it, the boys or young men clean some fish that will be sold in the market or on the city streets.
At least one of the young boys on the pier is fishing with a line in hand.
In the workshop there is a better view of the quay. However, I chose the main photo because I guess it is a less usual daily life shot.

Hello Francisco,
A good capture of the daily lives of of these people. The grouping of the people works well, with the young boys on the bridge looking down on the working men at the rocks; it's very natural and fluid. Wonderfully bright and vivid colours.

Hi Francisco!
I have seen scenes like this every day in Ponta da sol in Santo Antao island and I like both versions here.I like the composition with the four in the foreground in working pose and the other four on top of the image.And the colors are true Cape Verde.

I like this one because this colourful photo really shows daily life. Nobody has time to see the photographer, to pose! The diagonalof the pier works very well here.

A nice slice-of-life photo, Francisco. I like the colors and all the bustle of this image. This is a case where less is not more; more is more. The boys with legs dangling over the peer drew my eye first. Next, the person with that clutch of fish in gloved hand. Then there's that busy fellow with the knife. You managed to capture a lot of an interesting place and moment.

Sim, esta é uma vista mais interessante que focaliza a atividade das pessoas. Mas gosto muito da imagem do WS também - tem as pessoas e nos dá uma visão mais ampla do lugar, como disseste. Diga-se de passagem, um lugar muito bonito.

You've captured, so well, the intent focus of the fisherfolks and their fish cleaning.... also the ubiquitous green vest (I have one!) and the flip-flops (I have them too!). Nice, also, to see the fish they have caught. Thanks, Judy

Totalmente de acordo com a tua opção, Francisco. O WS também está bem e mostra mais contexto (gosto do jovem de braço esticado) mas esta cena aproximada é bem mais interessante mostrando detalhes do peixe que eles apanharam e da actividade envolvida antes de ir para o prato. A sequência que se vê aqui no 1º plano é excelente.

Olá Francisco,
Esta tua colecção de instantâneos de CV parece inesgotável. A acção está muito bem apanhada e a imagem está admiravelmente bem composta. Gosto do enquadramento apertado e do "V" deitado desenhado pelas rochas e pelo cais. As roupas coloridas dão-lhe um ar muito vivo e alegre.
O WS também está estupendo, muito pelas mesmas razões.
