Approaching Baia das Gatas, a photo from Sao Vicente, Barlavento

Photographer's Note

Here you see a small traditional fishing boat in front of Praia do Norte (see the village at right; the arch of Porton d'Nos Ilha is a couple of pixels on the shore below the village), approaching the fishing landing of Baía das Gatas, São Vicente Island, Cape Verde.
Most of the volcanic rocks of this area are dark brown or black; the yellowish areas of the photo are sand.
The helicopter in the picture belongs to the of NATO Steadfast Jaguar 2006 exercises that occurred then.
This photo is part of the series of Cape Verde Fishermen. My previous shot was a general view of the area of rock reefs of Baía das Gatas, where the boats approach the bay, mostly to the left of today’s shot. Next will be a close-up view of a boat in a different day.

Ola Francisco,
I like the contrast between the classic boat and the insect-like helicopter. The soft background colors are attractive and I like the wave although I find it a bit disorienting. Is that wave breaking toward the boat ant the beach we can see? So where are you standing? SAA, Pat

Olá Francisco, esta está um espectáculo! A paisagem está impressionante (pela maneira como se ergue tão na vertical) e dramática pela cor escura. As casinhas do lado direito, o helicóptero e o barco ajudam ao impacto visual pelo contraste de escalas e a as zonas da areia clara fazem um bonito contraste de cor. Grande foto.

Olá Francisco,
A névoa cinzenta acastanhada prejudica muito, mas quanto a isso nada havia a fazer. Mas gosto muito da compo, com o triângulo heli, barco e aldeia, o monte árido e imponente atrás e a água cor de esmeralda a contrastar com o castanho da terra.

Esta es una my buena serie de fotos con los veleros.

El helicoptero le da otro aire y es muy interesante ver algo muy tradicional con algo moderno.

Hi Francisco,
Great timing. You managed to have in the same picture different aspects of daily life. Nice soft colours. I would add some contrast though.
