Isto não é o Iraque nem o Líbano, felizmente. Em Junho a NATO realizou um exercício militar em Cabo Verde, com o nome NATO Steadfast Jaguar 2006, principalmente nas ilhas de São Vicente, Santo Antão, Sal e Fogo. O exercício foi o primeiro da NATO num país africano e destinou-se a treinar a NRF (Força de Reacção da NATO). Na ilha de São Vicente, além de outras operações, foi simulado um desembarque anfíbio na Praia do Flamengo e o ataque a uma suposta base terrorista. Na ilha do Fogo foi treinada a evacuação da população devido a uma eventual erupção do vulcão.
Este veículo militar alemão Fuchs (pertencente ao Eurocorps) foi fotografado junto à estrada entre a cidade do Mindelo e a Baía das Gatas, perto do cruzamento para Salamansa.
This is not Iraq, nor the Middle East, fortunately. In June the NATO performed a military exercise in Cape Verde, the first in an African country, nicknamed NATO Steadfast Jaguar 2006, mostly in the islands of São Vicente, Santo Antão, Sal and Fogo. Among their purposes, there was the training of the NRF (NATO Response Force) for evacuation of civilian populations (like after an eruption of the Fogo volcano) and the attack to a supposed terrorist base (which was simulated in São Vicente, with an amphibious landing on Flamengo beach).
This German Fuchs armoured personnel carrier belongs to the Franco-German brigade of the Eurocorps. The photo was taken on the road from Mindelo to Baía das Gatas, near the road to Salamansa, in the island of São Vicente.
