Photographer's Note

We had done a round trip of the island of Sal. This island has not so much sightseeing, but some of them are very intesting. On the east coast is the small village Pedra de Lume known for its saltworks and here is an old volcano crater. The bottom of the crater is right below the sea level. So sea water infiltrates until in the crater. In the caldera the water evaporates and what remains is nothing any more but salt. This source of salt was exploited between the 18th and the 20th century in industrial form

To reach the caldera you had to go through a tunnel (plese have a look to the workshop) and then you could see this panorama.
