Photographer's Note
Santo Antao island of volcanic origin is the 2nd largest island in the archipelago of Cape Verde, located in the Windward group called, is the most western island of the archipelago and also the northernmost. The island's capital is the town of Ribeira Grande.
The eastern side of the island is green making an eminently agricultural Santo Antao island. Coupled with the hospitality of its people, the island finds its most alluring in the grandeur of its mountains and its cliffs that drop down to the sea. The steep landscape, contrasting with the green areas is a strong attraction for hiking and adventure travel.
Porto Novo is the largest town on the island of Santo Antão in Cape Verde. Its importance lies in the harbor which is critical to the island's economy. It is here that part of the maritime transport of people and their agricultural products to the other islands of the archipelago. It is also the only town on the south coast of the island and therefore access to the remaining villages of the island is made from there through the winding roads through the mountains or to the Northwest coast through some sections of modern roads.
