Photographer's Note

is massive in some parts of Boa Vista. This is surely one effect of tourism as it is difficult to imagine how the whole population of Boa Vista (which is roughly 8000 people) should have produced such piles of waste. Going from Sal Rei to the north, roughly 500 m behind the Marine Club, there is an area covered by plastic waste, glass bottles and old cars, roughly the size of two football fields.

Don't get me wrong, Cape Verde is an extraordinary experience, every island is different and has its own beauty, but we have seen waste on all islands. And as the population AND the number of tourists increases, it is soon gonna be a problem.
