Photographer's Note

In the Desierto do Viana, near the city of Rabil on the island of Boa Vista, rain is scarce and usually comes only once a year during a period between august and october. In some years there hasn't been any rainfall, in some other years they received the rainfall of several years combined. This is the curse of this island, never knowing if and how much rain there will be.

However, in 2011, there was so much rain that for a time there were lakes inside the desert. While taking this photo, only a few small drops came down, almost not noticable. But two weeks later heavy rainfalls ended the dry season.
