These are the vehicles which we were driving during our quad tour through the north side of the island of Boa Vista. We parked them here to have a rest after visiting the shipwreck and before my personal highlight, the Viana Desert. The quads were a great way to experience both these places. You must have either a four-wheel drive vehicle or a quad to get there. The quads are extremely noisy. In fact, one of my neighbours owns a quad and quite annoyingly he sometimes drives around in it, I wonder whether he tests it here before taking it elsewhere. I have never driven a quad before, so I was glad we had a bit longer stop in this village, Bofarreira. I wrote already about the meeting with local children there. One of the important points of this stop was to see in a bar (Bar Nha Lugar) a collection of photos of the shipwreck to realize how it was slowly decomposed by the sea over the years. I asked whether we could use the toilet there. The guide took me to a side, and he told me that we can use the toilet but the bar is actually made in the private house and so the toilet is actually the private toilet of the owners so it would be appropriate to buy something from the bar before we could use it. It was not a problem of course, we bought something to drink. It was interesting to see the actual toilet of people living there. It looked simple, but there was a bath tub and a washing machine. Just the flush didn’t seem to work... There were few local people gathered in the bar who watched our each move with a great curiosity, I tried to talk to them, but they didn’t speak any of the languages I speak. The guide however spoke fluent English and French.

I often complain about cars parked along the street and spoiling the view. This time due to the extraordinary nature of the vehicles, I think they add here some color and a feeling of adventure.
