Photographer's Note

The hot, dry north is certainly one of the most fascinating areas to visit in Cameroon: it's home to a whole hotchpotch of peoples including Choa, Moundang, Toupouri, Mafa, Kapsiki and Mousgoum. The Fulani (Fulbé) dominate and have strong traditional leadership structures (lamidates). It's a region with many contrasts between tradition and modernism.
This is a lamido (king) palace in Maga, built in "banco"(clay).
You can see a mix between tradition (typical houses with dome shape near the door, lyons, giraffe, the chador on the head of a tourist) and modernism (a cameroonian woman with basket-bonnet, the flags of Cameroon on the sides and an aircraft(!) up to the traditional shape house on the left.
