Photographer's Note

When one is on safari in Africa, whether driving in a jeep, walking with a guide or just resting in one's tent, one is always alert to the possibility that some creature whose reputation precedes it, will emerge before you and take your measure. Such was the case when we came across this leopard which was resting before being disturbed.
Rest assured dear friends that I do have some good shots of leopards, more than is a visitor's due. But I precede them with this one as it somehow captures the elusive, mysterious and magical spirit of the African bush.
The image is purely a product of my slow reaction to the fleeting presence of the animal, the lateness of the hour, the poor light and probably the fact that I had not removed the CPL after the light had diminished.Plus of course the excitement at being in the presence of such a perfect creature.
In colour it looks a poor effort, so I desaturated, increased contrast enormously and sharpness. Hopefully the image conveys some of the things mentioned that I wanted to convey.
