Photographer's Note

A Gemsbok (Oryx gazella) we came across just as we arrived at the Moreshwe pan in the Khutse Game Reserve. It was extremely hot that day, and he was obviously happy to just lie in the shade all afternoon.

Those horns are approximately 85cm long.

Male Gemsbok weigh approximately 240kg, and they are usually found on open grass plains in semi-desert regions and dry savannah.

Photo taken at a focal length of 420mm, which equals to 630mm on the D100.
