Hello Gert,
All three pictures are beautiful and very colourful. I have a little preference for the second one in the WS (your altered image # 1 with the anchor) but it's not really easy to choose between that one and the main picture.
I get the impression that Cape Verde doesn't have the extreme poverty and misery of many other African countries ... Perhaps a wrong impression.
Jean wrote that travel between islands is not always that easy. Either irregular boat connections or expensive flights.
Best regards, Paul

Thank you Paul,
Cape Verde graduated from the category of "least developed countries" to a "developing country" in 2007 according to the UN. There are very few natural resources, but the country has gained from a stable democracy and low corruption and a transition to a service economy. Remittances from citizens abroad and support from the EU (mainly through Portugal) are an important part of the GDP. The shocking poverty seen in most parts of continental West Africa is not found here. I don't remember if the flights between the islands were very expensive. Maybe they were, since there is no competition, but the main problem was that there were relatively few flights, so I was grateful to friendly ticket salesladies that I managed to get on. (No bribes paid.) Between São Vicente and Santo Antão (seen on this picture) I used the ferry (rather bumpy water). Best regards, Gert |
