Hello Gert
Indeed, very special these eight colourful and if I may say so, powerful women. I wished these women also represented women-power, but looking at the male faces on the election posters in workshop one, I think that was wishful thinking in 2006 and probably also in Cape Verde 2018.
Have a good week, groet Rob

Thanks Rob,
Your comments forced me to have another look at the net. Women took 23,6 % of the seats (17 out of 72) in the last elections in Cape Verde, placing the country at 73rd place out of more than 190. That is way above the USA (which never does very well in any kind of democracy ratings) with 19,4 %, but far below Rwanda, which easily tops the index with more than 61 % women in parliament. But of course the level of representation in parliament doesn't say much about real influence on society. Gert |
