Great batalay 2014-03-10 6:42

Hello Klaudio,

I liked very much your reminiscences accompanying this well composed shot. There is a sense of mystery in the photo, with the young lady strolling bye in the shadows. I see that you lived your teenage years in Australia, but how old were you when you first emigrated from Croatia? I know I had similar experiences visiting the areas of my youth (Ankara, London) after absences of decades. The scale of walls and buildings certainly change. A wall that I used to kick a soccer ball against in London in my youth, and that had seemed 2-3 times as tall as I, had contracted to only 6-8 feet.

Regards, Klaudio, it's always a pleasure to read you thoughtful essays.

Hi Bulent. Thanks for your reciprocal thoughts. I was nine when I left Dalmatia(notice I chose that word) and then lived two and a half years in Paris before the long boat trip down under.
I have been back to Ballarat a few times, mainly for funerals of people who came here around the same time. We were a closely knit little community of Dalmatians before we went our separate ways. Some stayed behind and now the names of the parents who brought us to Australia are chiseled on marble slabs in the Ballarat cemetery.
Stay well,
