Hello Chris,

Great image of this unique amphitheater.It is not quite clear as to why such steep slope was chosen for seating arrangement and what used to take place in the arena down below.Very well one.TFS.

Nearly all the amphiheatres used hillsides to convey the sound of the speaker far below. There were no microphones or speakers back then. Athens, Delphi, Ephesus amphithetres are all built on hillsides. The Colosseum in Rome is a notable exception because the 'hill' was artificial. The acoustics in Pergamum were astonishingly good.
