Hello Dave,
I really like the foreground in your picture and I think to try a wide angle shot was a good idea. But the trees in the background seem to fall to the left and the water level does not seem horizontal-which is quite disturbing.
So I would, in this case, just crop the background and concentrate on the blooming plants in the foreground which show excellent sharpness and colour.

Your comments are very useful and much appreciated. I see now that the horizon is off and I agree that the background is distracting. I wanted to portray more of the whole scene with the blooms going off into the background. I didn't want just a photo of a plant. To show the scene rather than the plant probably fits more with the concept of Trekearth anyway. Unfortunately I didn't take the time to focus properly and check my aperture, which was at 4.5 and narrowed my depth-of-field.
