hi takero,
I was reading through your notes of the "oiran" series and I find them all very interesting. especially the confusion between a geisha and an oiran - I think Western literature and movies are mostly responsible for giving the word geishas a reference to prostitution...
I didn't know however that oiran ladies could turn down offers and clients, or that the "business" would take place with such an elaborate procession.
you have caught this particular step in her walk - indeed, the clog seems to be very difficult and uncomfortable to wear.
