Great macondo 2007-11-21 4:38

Hi Matthew.
Great shot you have here. I can't see the F111s in it, but no doubt their speed and the smoke made them hard to catch. The colours are well captured by your exposure, and the whole scene does look quite destructive and puzzling. Like you, I find the clarity contrasted with the blurry part. The cropping adds to the impression of the horizontal path of the bombers. Well done.
Regards,
Andrew

No, you can not see the jet, but you can see the trail left by it. It was moving left to right from behind the towers towards the Story Bridge. It was flying at very low altitute, between 700-1000ft.

To explain the photo, more, that very bright section is the initial spot where the afterburners were switched on and the more orange parts of the streak/trail was the mark left by the dimmer flame. After passing the Story Bridge, the planes went vertical, lighting all of Brisbane city, and could be seen from as far away as the Gold Coast, Caloundra and Toowoomba!!!

Thanks again for looking

Thanks for that Matthew.
Must have been a phenomenal sight, not to mention noise. I did figure that it was going left to right from the smoke.
Again, great shot!
Andrew
