Ola Francisco,
Yet in spite of all their language differences, they have managed to get along without killing each other. i suspect that in most cases, it requires the hubris of believing 'god' is on your side to go out and kill people. It seems to me that a great majority of war has religious differences as the problem. HLJ, Pat

Belgium is a very strange case. Apparently, the Northern part (Flanders) should be united with the Netherlands while the Southern part should be part of France. (And the German bit in the east).
Some people say that the "country of Belgium" doesn't exist, as it seems just an artificial juxtaposition of two different parts. And, indeed, the king is not called "King of Belgium"; his real title is "King of the Belgians". Some say that it's the king (or monarchic system) that keep the Belgians united.
Now, the European Union has most of its institutions in Brussels; so, the capital of Belgium is also the de facto capital of Europe. Maybe Belgium will become a kind of European "District of Columbia".
