Great dragonslayero 2006-05-03 20:38

Hello Koyama-san.
I have one thing to say about rhis photo: STEEP!
I like your choice of location for this photo, the way the lighting makes for a well light flight of strairs and shrouded forest and vegetation around gives a very old imagery, shrouded in unknown history.
Good size comparison as well, by adding the person in this photo is gives a more direct knowlege on how big and how steep these stairs really are.
I see these kind of stairs around in all countries, the reasons for them being so steep has always baffled me, but it is good to see that the design is the same all over the world.
I am no expert on Japanese history, but might you note refer to the three attemts that the Mongols made to Invade Japan?

Default To dragonslayero: Not the Mongols

Hi Odd Jarie.

Mongolian invation took place in 13th century.
This Kamikura is much older than Eirik Thorvaldsson.
Some remains excavated here idenfified as old as3c. bc.

One of the myths is "Xufu".
Chinese history tells like this.

An explorer and colonist named Xufu sent by Emperor Qin over the eastern ocean to find a new domain in 219bc.
He found a land of prosperity, not returned against imperial order but stayed there.

So called "Xufu's tomb" is in Shingu.
