To perlindqvist: invisible borders

  • In Portugal (my country) we have border with Spain only. Since both countries belong to the European Union (and Schengen Agreement) there is no control at the border. In the older roads, the check point buildings are still there, but you don't have to stop. In the new roads, especially the bridges across the border rivers, there is nothing, not even a flag. You cannot notice you enter another country, unless you check the roads numbers and towns names and match them with a map.
    Nevertheless, all countries of the EU are independent, sovereign nations. I guess the European Union kind of relations between its countries is a good (not perfect, but good) solution for inter-nations relations.
