Hi Rosemary. Yes, there is nothing like a piazza. Here in Australia there is a paucity of public places where people can sit away from traffic and enjoy some quality time with friends. Parks are the closest things we have or cafes along the main streets that crisscross a town and in most such scenarios the old are left out. That is why I love the Mediterranean ethos. Great shot of this old couple in front of the church where they were probably baptized, married and will be eulogized when dead. A life in a close community- something precious in this world where many live dislocated and lonely lives.Best wishes. Klaudio.

I agree with so much that you said in your comments here Klaudio. It is much the same here in Namibia... people in the white community seem to live behind walls and there are few places to congregate as a community. I was really impressed by the Italian sense of togetherness and of belonging. There is a lot to be said for small town life in such places and I admit I was very envious. I grew up in England where the community spirit was not at obvious as it was in Italy but it was there. It cannot be such a bad thing to be born, get married, live and die in one place can it?
Thanks for stopping by Rosemary |
