Default Non-english threads

Dear all,
more and more in the forum are French threads. As my French is really poor the translation is a lot of work and it doesn't work well with bubblefish or other tools.
My proposal is to communicate in English. Thanks a lot.

yes, absolute - it sure is a good thing that most of the language used is English at this American site and it's a hell of a thing that English is more common than French. Point taken Francois ;-)

Hi Achim,

I can understand your feeling when seing a thread you can't understand... But some TE members don't speak english or very badly. So what should they do? Not use the forum at all? As Français said, the huge majority of the thread are in english, so it's not really a problem for me...

Cheers,

Loïc

...I thought that it could be interesting:

an estimated third of all words/vocabulary used in English comes from French actually...
what shall we do?...omit those words when we write in English with usage of French being no longer permitted?

what about if we proposed not to use German, too?...
that would give us roughly 1/3 "English" words left to choose from...
and those would be mostly Latin ones...not much of a choice, innit;-))

my proposal would be to leave it the way it is and learn French instead;-))

cheers
arturo

dear John, you are absolutely right, it's a shame to have 5 threads in french (and 2 bilingual french english), in over the past 40!!!!
wow..
i think the the language of Moliere is definitely going to be the main language of TE!!!
Shakespeare won't be happy...:-D

Be happy that several french speaking members speak now only english, and forget us, poor french speaking people :-(

keep posting

all the best

For me it's no problem in French... I understand English as good as French. There are a lot French speaking members, let them the choice, no need for another "rule" here, I think...
Another thing : why should French people learn English, and why English speaking people not French ? Let us keep the freedom, one of the very few we still have : to have our own language... (by the way : I speak Dutch)...
