You have written a fascinating and most informative note about Britain's canals and shown us a beautiful photograph to accompany it.
This is a perfectly and very pleasingly composed image which works so very well in black and white: I love the soft lighting and the rich tones, fine contrasts and lovely textures. Your exposure is perfect and the details and sharpness are exquisite.

P.S. How remarkable that you took this photograph in the little Oxfordshire village of Cropredy. I have, in fact, visited this place a couple of times myself and actually became acquainted with one of the village worthies there - in fact, he used to live very close to this very canal. Pretty decent old bloke he was but he was pretty long in the tooth when I knew him so he's probably passed on long ago. Fancied himself as a bit of a photographer too but would never have managed to produce a photograph half as good as yours. Cheers.
