Default Guestbook

Hi all,

Is it not possible to add a guestbook for each member so that no members of TrekEarth can leave a message?

What do you think about it?

Regards
Philippe

Err... you mean in our profile? A kind of "global critique"?

Let me be honnest with you: this definitly looks like a bad idea to me. One of the major issue of TE is the green smilies swapping and the "fake critiques" to buddies... Immagine what a "guestbook" would look like...

Only my 2 cents... ;-)

Let's re-phrase Philippe's request:

Would it be possible to add a guestbook function only for non-member to be able to leave a message to the photographer?

Is that what you meant?

If so:

- every member can become a "non-member" again by simply loging out... and then write all he wants, where he wants (including in his own guestbook)
- a huge majority of TE so called members never take the time to write a single critique, why the hell a guy not interested in spending 5 minutes to open a free TE account would take the time to write something about a photographer (if the photographer is not his son/friends/husband...)

Well, in one word or in 1000: I definitly don't think it's a good idea, sorry. And even if I thought it's THE idea, just keep in mind that -almost- nothing never change in TE... ;-)

You guys are brutal.

One way to improve critiquing, if that is your main goal, would be to make it from pull down menus. There could be a place for remarks but it would not have to be mandatory. You could still have 3 layers of good, bad or indifferent instead of points and within each of the three you could have another layer of menus for composition, saturation, color, focus, etc.... Under bad and indifferent you could have common problems listed like overexposed, out of focus, poor composition, etc and all these would be check marks. The site could more easily collect, sort and analyze these quantified results. The number of visits was recorded you might have a more accurate view of what is taking place.

Then you could have a contact button for those non members that wanted to talk to a specific member and it would not likely be abused since it would not be counted in the data collection.

Indeed if the idea of guestbook you do not like it would be nice to contact a member without necessarily register.
As long as our email is not visible, I do not see too many risks.

Regarding the notes on the photos, this was not the debate.

In my opinion, this standardized method of critiquing will lose the personal touch the way viewers critique images. I like the way each viewer critique each photo in their very own way and my thinking is this is what separates TE from other similar sites. Otherwise you would lose those subtle nuances but maybe important discussions and feel like riding on a conveyor belt and sorted out...
