Hi Bev,
after seeing your photos from this charming destination I gave it a thought. Yesterday the forecast was ok so we wanted to go for a trip but the forecast was better for the north so we venture north instead.
Quite a peculiar structure here. I wonder whether they can have some practical application like the beehive or a box for owls?

you can see the opposite side of the problem with a tropical plant being killed by the frosts in my new post.
