Great composition. It was a good idea to exclude the sky and the figures give scale to this vast landscape.
I seem to remember that Taklamakan means "He who goes in doesn't come out." Is that right?

yes, and it has also got the meaning of "the sea of death"...however, quite a few expedition, surveying, geological and archaeological projects had been done in these area (and there are alot going on! especially in the lopnur lake region). The ancient silk road also went across it and left us lots of puzzles to solve...there are lots of ancient civilization site located in the desert...check out my photo for one of these...
