Hello Gert,
First, I look at how much your time machine has brought you back. The typical colours of Kodachrome slides immediately provide a clue. Here too they could be scanned very well.
I am curious which writer you interviewed then. It will not have been the scholar of this statue.

Thank you Rob,
The writer's name was William Trevor, Irish living in the UK. I met him again in 1983 for a new interview. Just the other day I found out that he passed away a couple of years ago at 88. Best wishes, Gert
