Hello Elvira,
The Gothic castle may not be so visually attractive as the Gothic cathedral but it was there to serve a completely different purpose, clearly shown.
It is an interesting brick fortress but, is that a church attached on the r/h side?
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Bev,
thanks for writing! I do not know very much about this castle, as I mentioned in my previous posts we were on a bicycle tour, and I remember we had rarely enough time to stop and explore locations. But I looked up the internet and now I know the answer to your question: In 1780 a part of the castle was adapted for a prison. In 1806 and 1807 a fire devastated the medieval castle. The castle was reconstructed in 1822, and from then on housing a Lutheran church. (Wikipedia) Kind regards, Elvira |
