Great mkamionka 2020-09-29 7:36

Hi Jorge,
Russian empanadas?
We call them in Polish pierogi, and in the USA the word pierogis is equally popular to Italian tortellini or ravioli, and more popular than German Maultaschen. But it means something else in Russian.
You are right that Mongols have been coming close to Polish borders as well, but I am not sure whether it was their invention. In the end as you see almost each country is doing it... I shared a flat with a Chinese student once and he prepared those sometimes. Similarly my Argentinean friend was inviting us for empanadas...

Great addition to your reportage from Russia,

I love empanadas and they are very different of pierogui and dumplings, empanadas are baked in an oven. ravioli isn't exactly the same thing, and portuguese cousine and spanish have nothing similar.
I guess mughols took this in some place in central asia and sent this for other places. of course only supposition..

take care
