Hi Stan,
Another fine reportage from the film days. Reminded me of a documentary on the making of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid for some reason. Regarding the color and saturation problem you mention, I don't think it is an issue with TE or other webhosts (pbase, etc.). Colors look desaturated because most of the browsers have no color management, e.g. Firefox. Try the latest versions of Explorer and Safari, which is also downloadable for PC from Apple. These are supposed to be color managed. Definitely convert (not apply) to sRGB before uploading. You may also want to set levels somewhere between 0.9-1 and bump up contrast and saturation by 5-10%. Displaying photos on the web requires different PP than viewing on your own calibrated monitor or printing. Best wishes,
Hakan

Hi Hakan,
Thanks for the tips. This digital stuff is always a learning experience. I will take your suggestions in mind. I wish now that I would have purchased a Mac instead of a PC. PCs are always giving me problems. No wonder you Mac users are snobs. Macs are superior machines. Thanks again, Stan |

No, we are not :). In my lab at the university, we strictly use Apple G5 because PC workstations are simply not able to handle the computational load. It's not just hardware but also the operating system. With photography, I do raw conversion on Mac (Capture NX) and subsequent tiff-to-jpeg conversion with touch-ups on PC (Photoshop). The reason is that I have CS2 running on PC only.
I don't think you need a Mac so long as you have a good monitor. In fact NX runs faster on a PC. Best wishes, Hakan |
