Default TErs, do something to help TE spirit

I am active on TE since now few months and it has been a really nice place to find people with commons thoughts: photography (at least) and travel.

But since now few weeks, there are been many subjects tackled: points and smileys system, quality of the photographs posted every day, how to educate new members with the famous TOS policy for the main subjects..

I would say that these discussions are really symptomatic that something is hapening to TrekEarth and the way people are involved with the comunity (and I know that with this new thread, I am contributin to this feeling, but if I'm wrong, just let me know, and we'll stop this discussion.

I really do not know what to do (well, I have an idea that is probably linked to the fact that I am a bit borred now and would need a break to be more motivated afterwards) but may be we could try to analyse and propose actions to react against these feelings.

Too many good members are not active anymore and it was the first symptom of the main issue..
Do we close our eyes and wait to see what would be the site in the next 6 months? Or do we want to try something to keep this great community alive with something more than a travel guide?

Am I alone feeling this situation?
Let me know what you think about this yet another unneeded discussion ;-)

Cheers
Alex

Default helping TE spirit...

I think somehow I agree with Didi to certain extent.. but I think the main discussion here is not about the quality of the capture but about the quality of the subject matter.. i.e. your pet.... For sure for me there is no real TE spirit in that... Some of my post are not 100% te either but then I see if it teaches us something about life... as life is a world itself as well....

But what I think is missing as well is the spirit to help people or newcomers to improve their photos.. i.e. constructive comments from experienced photographers... I myself sometimes feel unadequate to comment on how to improve as me myself is on the path of improvement and myself I will enormeneously appreciate a contructive critic how my photo could have been better... for me it is worth more than many 'normal' day to day critic....

my 2cents... Bala

merci
francine

I do feel the same from a lot of people posting less, there is sometimes a kind of routine that is installed and this to be read in some critiques (in and out) and then the member goes for a break (I am in this category).
The best discipline to live here is go for a three interesting and worked compositions in a week as Zepi is talking about and as I intend to do in future, more is now too much according to the number of entrance and progressing good photographers and fair characters on the site.
According to attention due to newcomers and progressing people there is not enough attention from "old members" but there is also an education that is missing to a lot of incoming photographers who are missing attention to the elaborated critiques given and serious workshop made and who are not writing attentionned critiques.

Hi everybody;
Almost one week ago , I decided to stop posting photos! Why?; Fed up with this routine , to run every morning to post a new one, I realise if I let my account without posting 2 days, I had more comments and sometimes more interestings comments, coming from peoples who digged into the gallery to find something more, it seems that gallery generate something like 30 pages a day, and sometimes more!
And also, we must admit that we don't travel all the time, so we need to find new ideas, new themas , new researchs, and if not, we go to the easiest point , we take photos of things around, sometimes a part of our hometown, and it's interesting, sometimes the cat, the dog, the girlfriend, some plates, some glasses; everything we can find around us, but so far from TE original philisophy!
I think I certainly did myself, and I saw some members who criticize newbies ,who accept this kind of shots from "friends".
So if we want to stay differents from other sites, with a special ethic, we need to apply new rules or to follow the initials ones!
I agree with 3 posts a week , even less, people will have time to watch every posts, and it will oblige members to post quality shots!!!!
All my best to all of you;
Philippe
