Great scobert 2007-04-03 10:28

Hello Ned,
This is a well composed and crisply focused photo of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. This is my favorite North Carolina lighthouse. My wife is originally from Chapel Hill, NC and we camped near this lighthouse in 1987 before it was moved inland. I thought that camping on the beach would be like camping in the Colorado mountains. The sweltering heat, humidity and misquitoes made for a miserable evening. We checked out at 4AM and went to an airconditioned motel. I loved North Carolina's outer banks in spite of our unpleasant campout. Good job!

Default To scobert: Camping

I was also there in 1987, but in the spring time, so heat wasn't an issue. In fact as I recall, it was a bit on the cool side. But almost any time of year, camping on the barrier islands is buggy, to say the least.

We camped in late June/early July. My wife said that the muggy ocean breeze was hot even for the Outer Banks. It was neat to have the light from the lighthouse shining on the tent though.
