Great mkamionka 2018-11-21 12:13

Hi Paul,
finally a beach as well! This I could use to convince my family for holidays in Nicaragua...
The volcano adds such a lovely silhouette here. People indeed seem to enjoy this place very much.
Great evening warm light makes everything feel quite pleasant.
The name adds a surprising element.
Great addition to your reportage!!!

Default To mkamionka: Nicaraguan beaches

Thank you Mariusz,

Personally I don't think that Isla Ometepe has really nice beaches. I mean beaches like in travel magazines.
The views are often stunning on Isla Ometepe but I don't think your family will like these places for a beach holiday. All beaches have dark volcanic sand.

However Nicaragua has two islands with beautiful white sandy beaches and palm trees: those are the Corn Islands (Islas del Maiz).
You have Little Corn Island and Great Corn Island.
They are located in the far east of the country, in the Caribbean Sea.

When you look at my Nicaragua map, you will see one white spot in the east. That's Great Corn Island.
Little Corn Island is too small to see on that small map but some travelers say that the best beaches are on the small island.

It's a very long and not so comfortable journey overland and overseas.
But you can fly from Managua (and also from Costa Rica) to Great Corn Island.
I wanted to go there ... but even in a relatively small counry as Nicaragua you have to make choices. There were so many places I wanted to visit and I chose for the places with volcanoes.

Kind regards,
Paul
