Great ikeharel 2019-10-21 2:26

Seeing this block of ice made me wonder what happened some millions of years ago that brought the black layers evident on the broken glacier, Murat.
Nicely explained the blue tone of the ice.
Have a nice new week,
Ike

Default To ikeharel: 1.8 m/day

Hi Ike,
Those marks cannot be millions of years old. Margerie flows at 1.8 m/day and it is 34 km long. If those streaks had been formed right at the origin, it would have taken them 34,000/1.8 = 1888.88 days = ~52 years to reach the terminus. So they can't be older than 52 years.
Cheers,
MT
